Commander Lina Grayson

Species: Human
Affiliation: Coalition, Vinaed-2 Outpost
Gender: Female
Height: 1.72 meters
Eye color: Blue
Hair color: Black

Current commander of the Vinaed-2 remote outpost.  Grayson was given command of the station three years ago when her father, Alex Grayson, retired.  Prior to her appointment, Grayson was Vinaed-2’s head of security.

Though any sort of service assignment on Vinaed-2 is largely viewed as something akin to being sent into solitary confinement, for the Graysons, it’s always been ‘just life’.  Being weeks of travel away from Coalition High Command, having to depend on only two, over-extended supply lines for anything Vinaed can’t provide, feeling strangely removed from any important events happening in the Sector 9 core, having to accept that your operational issues will more often than not be lowest priority…  All of these things have been the Graysons’ reality for decades.  To Alex Grayson, Vinaed-2 represented a noble thing to be protected: the last point of light on the edge of the black void beyond, a solemn reminder of the ephemeral nature of all the things the Coalition cherishes and holds true.  To his more adventurous daughter, Vinead-2 represents an equally noble thing – a shining opportunity to learn.

Lina Grayson was born on the planet Vinaed and has a home there still, just outside the limits of Lidell township; when she has leave, Grayson typically goes home.  Grayson’s parents have a residence in the same area, though her mother – a Coalition regulations auditor – yet resists retirement and is often on duty offworld.  Grayson’s older sister Mackenzie was part of a special operations unit that was declared MIA seven years ago after a mission of an undisclosed nature.

Like her father, Grayson is quick-tempered, stubborn, and trusts her instincts – characteristics that she and select others in her entourage feel would be degrees more problematic further in-sector.  Recognizing that not all battles are worth fighting, however, Grayson’s requirements are few but firm: honesty, accountability and loyalty are primarily enforced.  Due to Vinaed-2’s unique circumstances and the effects they have on the people posted there for any length of time, Grayson maintains an innocent-until-proven-guilty situational assessment approach and is generally respected for it.

When Grayson made the recommendation to High Command that Sector 9 assist the Ssujak in their conflict against the Oban, she did not expect them to allow her to proceed; getting the green light was both terrifying and exciting, as it moved Vinaed-2 – for the first time in its history – into the spotlight.

Executor Voss

Species: Ssujak
Affiliation: Caucus, Security and Defense Syndicate
Gender: Male
Height: 1.97 meters
Eye color: Black

Voss is a seasoned intelligence officer under the employ of the Ssujak military and is acting on mission.  Voss was tasked with opening communications with the Coalition’s Vinaed-2 outpost in the hopes of acquiring their assistance against the Oban.  This is Voss’ second inter-species facilitation assignment and presents many unique challenges, including establishing first contact with and requesting something critical of an organization that his species has been willfully ignoring for years.  Voss’ first inter-species assignment was to negotiate with the Oban when they first emerged from the Lisj nebula – it did not go well, and (though he would not admit it) Voss was stung by the failure.

Voss was born and raised in Shundis city on Ssujak-resk, but his parents originate from a mid-size colony many days’ travel from the Ssujak homeworld.  His father is as a Seris engineer that installs and repairs communications arrays offworld and his mother is a soldier.  Voss’ parents’ frequent and extended absences inculcated both responsibility and independence early in his life.  Later, strong analytical skills and a no-nonsense approach at attaining the goals set before him allowed Voss to lead a successful career and be recognized among his superiors as an effective problem-solver.

Though all Ssujak are by no means the same, Voss’ general demeanor certainly exemplifies his species’ more dour tendencies.  The Executor is an astute and supremely reserved individual with little sense of humour; like many of his kind, his patience for aimless activity is limited.  As an agent, he is loyal, discreet and directed.

Ssujak Executors are appointed by one of the six Caucus Syndics for the purposes of carrying out a mission or standing mandate.  While the mission or mandate is approved by the Caucus as a whole, the Syndic whose realm of influence the mission falls under is responsible for the specifics and success of its execution.  Petitioning Vinaed-2 is Voss’ seventh appointment under Syndic Yssin, the Ssujak Security and Defense administrator.  In the past, Voss has also served as Executor to two other Syndics.

Oban Moors

Collective term for the representatives of the Oban species.

Each Moor is a broodmother with unique genetic traits that get passed down to thousands of offspring over time.  An individual Moor’s power and influence among the Oban is determined in part by the number of individuals that carry her unique trait(s).  When a Moor dies, only Oban members of a specific caste (within that same brood) can do battle to become the next broodmother.  Moors are the largest, strongest and typically most intelligent members of their species.

A Moor can communicate with her brood over impressive distances using a form of basic compulsion.

Three Moors have crossed through the Lisj nebula wormhole into Sector 10 and it can be safely assumed that more exist on the other side.
